At around 1:20 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, officers from the department were called to the 3000 block of 30th Street SE, where there was a reported kidnapping involving a man who was robbed at knifepoint, assaulted, and held against his will in an area apartment.
During that robbery, police say that Mecca Lee-Bey, 20, and Tumarcus Hawkins, 26, both of Southeast DC, took their victim's car keys and forced them to send money to them electronically before stealing a vehicle.
Days later, on Monday, Oct. 23, Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of Irving Street NW to assist police in Maryland who were following the stolen car into DC, leading to the apprehension of Lee-Bey and Hawkins.
Lee-Bey was charged with:
- Kidnapping;
- Armed robbery with a knife;
- Simple assault;
- Unauthorized use of a vehicle;
- Theft of a stolen vehicle.
Hawkins was also arrested and charged with fleeing from law enforcement, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
